Limiting Beliefs
A belief is a thought that a person thinks repeatedly until it becomes subconscious. During this process a person’s brain seeks out evidence to support the belief. This is how your beliefs whether fact or opinion become your truth.
Today I am going to share a story from my past where a limiting belief was reinforced. I truly do not know the moment that these limiting beliefs were actually created; however, I can pick out certain times in my life where my personal thought processes reinforced them.
I share with you my experience participating in the science fair when I was a child as one example of many. A few things came to mind as I edited this video.
- I reinforced a limiting belief based off my personal experience. The point I was trying to make is that I did not have all the facts. The way that I viewed the world was limited by my personal experiences.
- The second thing that came to mind is that, some of the children may have made their own projects and excelled at science and just kicked my butt!
No matter what was the case, the beliefs I created and reinforced were never going to help me thrive in life? I honestly don’t think I should have won the science fair. I am however left wondering how things may have been different if I would have chosen to believe that I needed more resources in order to succeed. What if I had asked someone for help?
I have learned how to be an observer of my thoughts and beliefs. It’s important that I observe without judgment so that I am not shaming myself during this process. Observe them and decided if each belief serves my greater good and if I want to continue believing them. Did I have all the facts when I created this belief? Is there new information that I have acquired that supports a better belief?
Beliefs are good things to have and live by unless they are limiting in some way. If you are living your life with the belief that you are not enough, no one will love you, you can’t trust people, it doesn’t matter how hard you try and on and on, then you are directly reducing the amount of joy and success you will have in life. It’s time to break through your own boundaries and limits. It’s time for you, my wellness warrior to thrive!
