Altered Self Wellness – Chronic pain management tips for living a beautiful life in spite of your pain.
Experience The Yoga Yurt with me!
Today’s video is the second video in my exploring movement Series. Come with me as I discover different types of movement and get fit. Movement is an essential part of living healthy. It can be a challenge to find the right type of movement for yourself especially if you experience chronic pain or illness. Finding a way to build strength, increase flexibility and promote health while doing something you enjoy is essential to living well.
In this video I experienced Slow Flow yoga at the Yoga Yurt. Slow Flow is defined as a practice that uses physical postures, or asanas, to align your body. The fundamental yoga class, great for beginner yogis that wish to flow with the support of a teacher refining your alignment.
Yoga can be real, hit or miss with my body. While I love it for breathing, flexibility, strengthening and feeling centered yoga can often be difficult with my hip dysplasia and low back pain. This class was incredible and the owner/ instructor Amber Harrison was very gentle, educated and supportive. She took time to inform me the best way to safely come out of positions while taking in account my specific body limitations. I had no pain flare up after and I quit enjoyed the experience as well. I am excited to try her Arial class as it just looks so fun.
Please do not judge the effectiveness of the class by the way I practice because I down grade many movements. You will see my friend Lisa in the video as well. While she is nursing an injury she has been practicing yoga a lot longer than I have. I am grateful she was willing to be in the video as she demonstrations better form and more experience. Yoga is a great for people with all different skill levels. I will definitely be going back.
What types of movement do you adore? Have you tried yoga before? What did you think? How did it feel
Thank you for watching.
I am including a short bio about Amber Harrison Below and a link to her website: https://clients.mindbodyonline.com/classic/mainclass?fl=true&tabID=7
Amber Harrison Born and raised in beautiful Alaska, I got my first taste of yoga while studying my Bachelor’s Degree, Exercise Science in Colorado.
Yoga was a way for me to move gracefully, while improving my strength and flexibility in both mind and body. Yoga has taught me to be still in the moment, to speak thoughtfully and with kindness, to find joy in the ordinary and be a more compassionate person.
I had my first opportunity to receive training through CorePower Yoga, Colorado Springs and never have I been more in love with yoga than when I have the privilege of guiding someone through their practice. My heart is full after I teach, my teacher once said, “I practice for my students and I teach for myself”, this is so true for me.
After receiving my first certification I went on to receive Hatha Vinyasa Yoga certification in Greece, Stand Up Paddle Yoga, AIR Aerial Yoga, AIReal Yoga and STOTT Pilates training.
Yoga for me is more than just a physical practice, it is a way of life and a vibrant expression of one’s self in a fun and joyful way. I look forward to sharing this with you and our community.”
