I have overcome many challenges in my life but my orthopedic challenge is the most recent. Years went by and the pain I experienced in my body increased until finally I reached out to a medical professional for help locating the problem. It was then that x-rays showed one vertebrae was shattered into pieces. Within a week they also determined that I had hip dysplasia in both hips. Since then, I have endured two major back surgeries and await two hip surgeries. These have not taken place yet because I have been instructed to wait until the hip pain becomes unbearable. I am no stranger to pain.
During this time, I was on the verge of a complete mental and emotional breakdown. The pain was driving me insane and I found that I was losing my desire to go on. I felt like a burden weighing heavily on my loved ones. With regard to my job, I was losing my ability to work in my chosen career and thus felt more lost than ever. To cope, I had to learn how to mentally overcome chronic pain. It is my personal experience with pain that has increased my skill level in overcoming it. I realized that if I began to heal my mind, body and spirit, my life would be forever changed. From that time, I wanted to work one-on-one with people who were facing similar challenges.
